From Times Wire Reports

The parents of a Utah tourist who was stabbed to death in a New York subway station in 1990 while defending his mother agreed to accept a $300,000 settlement of its $100-million wrongful death suit against the city. Brian Watkins, 22, and his parents had come for the U.S. Open tennis tournament, and were waiting for a subway train when they were attacked by several teenagers. One of the muggers punched Mrs. Watkins in the face and Brian intervened. He was stabbed in the chest and pronounced dead a short time later.
