Suspect Arrested in Counterfeiting Scheme
Law enforcement officials arrested a Carson man on suspicion of running a counterfeit money and document factory out of his home, Carson sheriff’s station deputies said Thursday.
With the help of U.S. Secret Service agents, deputies raided the home of Jerome Carr on Tuesday, seizing more than $36,000 in counterfeit currency, said Det. Rolando Bracamontes.
Authorities also confiscated computers, printers, digital scanners and photographic equipment allegedly used to make fictitious checks, money orders, driver’s licenses and Social Security cards, he said.
Deputies were tipped off when Carr allegedly tried to purchase merchandise Saturday with bogus bills at a Sears store in the South Bay Pavilion, Bracamontes said. Carr was detained at the store until sheriff’s deputies arrived and seized $550 in counterfeit currency from him, he said.
Carr has several convictions, including an arrest in Lancaster last month for possessing counterfeit checks and currency, he said.
He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
