Several Reasons to Whistle a Happy Tune
Cher, whose dance tune “Believe” has been in the top 10 of the pop music charts for weeks and who co-stars in the upcoming movie “Tea With Mussolini,” has sold her Malibu home for close to its $3.75-million asking price.
The Oscar-winning actress, 52, had owned the 1.2-acre property since 1990. The house has six bedrooms, a gym and a media room in about 10,000 square feet. The home also has a tennis court, pool and ocean view.
The estate had been on and off the market since 1993. At that time, Cher was building a home in Florida. In 1997, she started building her next home in Malibu.
She is still putting the finishing touches on her new Malibu home, which is on two acres overlooking the ocean. The Italian Renaissance-style villa has at least five bedrooms and a gym plus projection and editing rooms in 15,000 square feet.
Nancy Sill of John Aaroe & Associates, Beverly Hills, and Ellen Francisco of Coldwell Banker-Jon Douglas Co., Malibu, had the listing on the home just sold. Nancy and Marcus Beck of Coldwell Banker-Jon Douglas Co. were the selling agents.

Ben Cross, who gained international fame as the star of the Oscar-winning best picture “Chariots of Fire” (1980), and his wife, Michelle Moerth, have sold their four-bedroom Hollywood home in the $700,000 range.
Cross, 51, has enjoyed stage success in his native England. He also has appeared in such TV movies and miniseries as “Great Expectations,” “The Flame Trees of Thika,” James Clavell’s “Gai-Jin,” “Dark Shadows” and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” in which he played Captain Nemo.
Rosemary Low of DBL Realtors, Los Feliz, represented the buyer, a record company executive. Richard and Chris Furstenberg, Furstenberg Realty, represented the sellers, who moved to Austria.

Investor Gabriel Brenner, who bought Walt and Lillian Disney’s longtime Holmby Hills home in May for nearly $8.9 million and then demolished it, has purchased a house next door to the 2.6-acre Disney property for close to its $4.9-million asking price.
The Mediterranean-style house, built in the 1920s, once belonged to actor Clark Gable, local Realtors say. The 6,000-square-foot house, on slightly more than an acre, needs work.
Brenner plans to combine the two properties into one estate with a tennis court. His family has business interests in California and Mexico, where they own several TV stations.
Barbara Robinson of DBL Estates, Beverly Hills, had the listing on the house just purchased, other realty sources said.
