BMW and Hyundai Motor Co. posted significant sales gains in the United States last month, while Mazda Motor Corp. sustained a double-digit decline in an otherwise robust March. Sales at Germany’s BMW jumped 14% from a year ago, driven by strong demand for the redesigned 3-series sedans. South Korean car maker Hyundai increased its sales 18%, with the Elantra compact sedan its strongest performer. Sales dropped 21.5% at Japan’s Mazda. Sales of Mazda’s Millenia luxury sedan and B-series pickups jumped, but demand for other models fell sharply.
