Computers for Seniors

Share

Re “Hauser’s Concept for ‘Granny’ to Simplify Computer Use,” March 23.

I just love the quote of Dave Stetler, director of business development for the Hauser consulting firm: “It’s beyond the scope of people age 65 and upward.”

It is obvious that Mr. Stetler hasn’t done his homework or a market survey. Being 65 qualifies me not to understand the computer, but I am somewhat computer-literate and get on line with my kids and grandkids as well as friends across the country.

It isn’t just seniors who are confounded by the computer, it is most everyone beyond school age. Just imagine buying a car in six different parts. That’s what’s on my desk right now.

Why can you get into any car made in the world and drive off without instruction in less than two minutes?

And the computer needs to learn to spell. Who ever went to the store to buy “flower”? Besides, no one buys “flour” anymore. Seniors buy cake mix because it’s quicker and easier than all that mess. Grandmas aren’t what they are stereotyped as [being] in your article.

Well, I have to get going to be in time for class and volunteer stuff. Who has time to sit on the Internet all day? Not us seniors.
