Skateboarders are eagerly awaiting the city’s new skate park, which should be open by the end of the year. The project--to be built at Arovista Park along Imperial Highway in the south end of town--will cost about $170,000 and will be near an open-air amphitheater already used by skateboarders. Karen Haluza, project coordinator, said the idea for a park came about when two city surveys showed that “skateboard parks were the No. 1 interest, youthwise, people had for recreational facilities.”

Haluza expects construction drawings to be presented at the May 4 City Council meeting. It will take about three months to build the park.
