Nicaraguan Hurricane Relief

Share

The Times published an article April 5 regarding the donations sent to Nicaragua by the Nicaraguan General Consulate in Los Angeles. It is sad to read such a biased article, based on information given by known foes of our government, as is Carlos F. Chamorro, ex-publisher of Barricada, the failed Sandinista newspaper. But what makes this article a shame is the malevolence directed toward the first lady of Nicaragua, a person with integrity who has dedicated all her time and effort to assist the indigent. It is the prerogative of the first lady to distribute the donations where she considers they are most needed, as in the case of the mattresses that were delivered to several national hospitals in Managua, where the sick were sleeping on the bare floor and where people from all over the country are taken care of, especially those affected by the hurricane.

Holy Week is kept by Catholics, and public and private offices, as well as businesses, close. The containers could not be moved from the port until the following week. Besides that, there were donations already in warehouses, programmed to be distributed first, before the donations just arriving to Nicaragua.
