‘Food Libel’ Laws

Share

Kudos to J. Robert Hatherill (Commentary, April 12) for showing how ridiculous the current “food libel” laws are. Even though Oprah Winfrey was cleared of all charges in her recent civil trial, she still had to spend millions of dollars to defend herself. No wonder Hatherill’s publishing company is afraid to publish his discussion of the negative effects of meat and dairy products, even if what he has to say is scientifically sound.

It’s obvious that the politicians who enacted these blatantly unconstitutional laws are working for large food-producing conglomerates that fund their political campaigns. They certainly weren’t working for the American people. The only solution to this is the obvious one, campaign finance reform. Let’s get the money out of politics now!
