* County connection: Chase Exon of Woodbridge

* Worth noting: One of five freshmen on the Waves’ roster, Exon paced Pepperdine with 20 dual-match victories. Exon began his college career with four consecutive dual-match losses, but rebounded to win 20 of his last 22 matches.

UC SANTA BARBARA

TRACK AND FIELD

* County connections: Sabrina Caplis of Foothill, Nate Traxler of Ocean View and Allison Catania of Mater Dei

* Worth noting: A senior, Caplis broke the school’s 400-meter record by finishing in 55.76 seconds at Fresno on Sunday. She also has the school record in the 800 meters (2:08.6). Caplis has the school’s second-fastest time in the 1,500 at 4:30.37. She is team captain this year and is undefeated at 400, 800 and 1,500 meters. Traxler, also a senior, has the Gauchos’ top shotput mark of the season (49 feet 6 1/2 inches) and his top hammer throw is 124-11.

BASEBALL

* County connections: Matt Brady of Villa Park, Craig Ritter of Fountain Valley and Orange Coast College, Mike Shwam of Edison and Orange Coast, Nick Murphy of Capistrano Valley and Jesse Gallup of Dana Hills

* Worth noting: Brady, a senior pitcher and outfielder, has appeared in all 38 Cal Poly games and leads the Mustangs with 40 hits and 23 runs batted in. He has 12 doubles, has scored 22 runs and is batting .255 for Cal Poly (17-21, 6-12 in the Big West Conference). Ritter, a senior infielder, is batting .274 with 19 RBIs in 38 games. Murphy, a freshman catcher, has played in nine games and has three hits, has scored three runs and has one RBI. Gallup, a freshman pitcher, is 0-0, 5.48 in eight games.

FLORIDA SOFTBALL

* County connections: Ashley Boone of Woodbridge and Nicole Kreipl of Huntington Beach

* Worth noting: Boone, a sophomore first baseman, broke the school record over the weekend for doubles in a career (23) and season (13) in a doubleheader loss to Auburn. She has the Gators’ top batting average (.340) and team highs in hits (51), home runs (five), RBIs (33) and is second in runs (23). Kreipl, a junior shortstop, tied a school record last week with three doubles in a game against Florida A&M; and is second on the team in batting (.331). Florida is 23-24.

LONG BEACH STATE

SOFTBALL

* County connections: Christina Ashley of Santa Margarita, Kristy Bonwell of Fullerton College, Traci Hensel of Kennedy, Carissa Reiswig of Dana Hills and Stacy Silva of Cypress

* Worth noting: Sophomore Hensel leads the 49ers’ staff with 19 appearances and ranks second in innings pitched with 91 2/3. She has an 8-7 record and 1.91 ERA, which ranks ninth in the Big West Conference. Silva, a sophomore first baseman, set a school record with 588 putouts last season and again leads the 49ers this season with 323. Bonwell, a senior outfielder, is tied for second on the team in stolen bases with four.
