The city will try to make use of office space at World Cup Center, vacated first by the U.S. soccer team and then by the Vigilantes minor league baseball team. The City Council voted Monday to spend $8,500 to have plans drawn up to remodel the center, which also has two lighted soccer fields, restrooms and a concession stand. The 5,000-square-foot building near La Paz Road and Marguerite Parkway will be used as much-needed public meeting space for city and community groups, said Deputy City Manager Rick Howard. The fields are still used by youth soccer teams.
