What: “King of Clubs,” by Robert Dedman, with Debbie LaRoach

Publisher: Taylor Publishing Co., $21.95

Robert Dedman is a self-made Texas billionaire. He is the founder and CEO of Dallas-based GolfCorp International, which operates more than 200 golf clubs around the world, including Pinehurst, the famous North Carolina resort that is the site of this year’s U.S. Open.

In this book, he tells his story, from poverty as a youth in Arkansas to his enormous success in business to his enjoyment of life as a 72-year-old. But the book is a lot more than just an autobiography of a successful businessman. It’s a how-to book as well, as Dedman details how he grew rich in more than money. It’s an enjoyable read that has much to offer.

The book includes Robert’s Rules of Order. He talks about such things as balance in one’s life, having a game plan, maintaining a positive attitude, and being a giver, not a taker. Rule No. 10 is, “Don’t forget to have fun. The more fun you have, the more money you make.”
