Xircom Notes Record Net Income in 2nd Quarter

Xircom in Thousand Oaks reported record sales and net income for the second quarter, which ended March 31.

Sales were reported at $97.7 million, a 52% increase compared with $64.1 million for the same period last year. Net income was $10.8 million or 42 cents per share, compared with $3.3 million or 14 cents per share for the same period last year. For the prior quarter, net income was $9.8 million or 39 cents per share.

Dirk Gates, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said Xircom began shipping RealPort Integrated PC Cards to six new original equipment manufacturer partners during the quarter.

“Now RealPort products account for 50% of total revenues in only the third full quarter of shipments,” Gates said.

Xircom manufactures products to connect portable-computer users to corporate networks, the Internet and other online resources. Its products are sold in more than 100 countries.
