When Tien Nguyen bought his house in Fountain Valley’s Westmont tract in the 1980s, he was delighted to be able to walk his two daughters to their elementary school.

Inside the house, he was charmed by the bits of Old England left behind by the sellers.

“I just loved the wallpaper,” says Nguyen. “It had little tiny flowers. They had two daughters too, and the bedroom walls were decorated beautifully for little girls.”

Most of the wallpaper is still up, along with the wainscoting and hand-painted flowers skirting the lower walls.

“I don’t know how they did it, but it’s very nice,” says Nguyen.

Pretty wallpaper and personal touches are not the only pluses with this 1 1/2-story stucco and shingle home. Nearly 2,000 square feet, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, it has a swimming pool, a fireplace and big yards both front and back.

This is a neighborhood where everything hasn’t been crunched together and lot sizes shrunken. “This has big sidewalks on both sides of the street,” Nguyen says.

The whole package was so inviting, he says, that the home went into escrow just days after hitting the market.

“I hate to let it go,” adds Nguyen.
