Land Uses

We obviously failed to get our story across in your July 29 article, “Neighbors Object to Development Below Power Lines.” What we failed to convey is that we’re seriously considering biking and jogging trails in our rights of way, not convenience stores. To be sure, the department is considering some new revenue-generating uses for its transmission rights of way; it would be parking or other passive uses, as well as public recreation.

These recreational uses are of equal importance with the new leasing opportunities. We will soon announce a comprehensive plan that includes bike paths, community parks and hiking trails. These new community uses are a noteworthy part of our rights-of-way use policy and one that the public supports.
