Annual Competition for Associations

Condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations throughout the United States are invited to enter the competition for the 10th annual National Community Assn. of the Year Award, sponsored by Community Assns. Institute.

Entrants will compete against similar-size community associations in four categories: small association, 1 to 149 units; medium, 150 to 499 units; large, 500 to 999 units; and large, 1,000-plus units.

Entrants will be judged in six areas:

* Organized and productive business operations.

* Successful governance principles and practices.

* Sound financial management.

* Thorough and effective communications systems and techniques.

* Fair and effective rules notification and enforcement policies and procedures.

* Creative activities and programs designed to foster a sense of community and enhance residents’ enjoyment of their homes.

The entry fee for member associations is $35; nonmember entry fee is $60.

The deadline for entries is Sept. 1. Winners and runners-up will be notified Sept. 15.

The organization is a nonprofit association created in 1973 to educate and represent the nation’s 205,000 community associations. Members include homeowners associations and related professionals and service providers.

The contest is underwritten by Ian H. Graham Inc. Insurance of Encino and the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.
