A Matter of Degrees

Cooper Instruments makes this nifty Grill Surface Thermometer designed to sit beside your meat on the grill. This way you know the temperature at which your food is cooking, important because you want to avoid over- or undercooking. (When you barbecue, sear meat at 500 degrees, grill chicken at 325 to 350, and slow roast with indirect heat at 300 to 325 degrees.) The handy gauge also has slots on the side so you can safely pick it up with a spatula.

Grill Surface Thermometer, $11.65 at Smart & Final.
