County Riders Have Been Hot on the Trails

Orange County isn’t known as a hot spot for mountain bike racing, but county residents had strong performances in the U.S. championships last week at Mount Snow, Vt.

Leigh Donovan of Capistrano Beach finished second in the women’s dual slalom, losing in the final to Katrina Miller. Miller also won the series points race, but Donovan won the national title because Miller is from Australia.

Brian Lopes of Laguna Beach won his third national title in dual slalom. He dropped out of Saturday’s competition after the first round because of an injured ankle, but had enough points built up to ensure the title.
