Officials Greet First Peacekeepers

U.N. and government officials welcomed about 130 Kenyan soldiers, the first wave of a 6,000-member peacekeeping force, to war-battered Sierra Leone. But as the United Nations’ blue-and-white flag was handed over at an airport ceremony, officials from the former rebel group that ravaged this country during an eight-year civil war were conspicuously absent.
