Bibby May Give Reserves Playing Time

Nagging injuries and unforeseen circumstances have prompted Coach Henry Bibby to parcel out some playing time to his bench for USC’s games with UC Santa Barbara tonight and St. Bonaventure in New York on Saturday.

Sixth man Jarvis Turner, hobbled by a sprained tendon and bone bruise in his left foot since early November, will sit out those games and his condition will be reevaluated next week. Guard Jeff Trepagnier will play tonight but will skip the New York trip so he can attend his grandmother’s funeral on Saturday.

Forward Sam Clancy is bothered by tendinitis in his knees, and may not be able to go his usual 32-35 minutes.

Bibby said Tuesday that he expected to play freshmen Konstantinos Charissis, Nate Hair and Malachi Thurston in the two games. They would join Rashad Jones, the next player off the bench after Turner.

“I’m OK with . . . expanding their roles now,” Bibby said. “Your nonconference schedule is to [find] guys that can help you. That’s what we’re looking for now.”
