Zedillo Delays U.S. Visit

MEXICO CITY — Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo announced Thursday that he will postpone a working visit to the United States scheduled for next week after opposition politicians tied their approval of the trip to unrelated issues.
Opposition legislators in the lower house conditioned their approval of the visit on the passage of items that “have no relation with the president’s trip,” a news release from the president’s office said. Mexico’s Televisa TV network reported that the lawmakers’ stipulations were tied to budget issues.
Zedillo planned to meet with President Clinton in Washington next Wednesday and Thursday.
