The Nov. 21 “Real Estate Q&A;” column advised readers that they could ask the three major credit-reporting services--Experian, Trans Union and Equifax--not to sell their names to credit card companies. We listed telephone numbers for each credit repository.

But thanks to a reader, Sue Chan of Santa Monica, we learned a faster way to handle things. Calling one number--(888) 567-8688--lets all the credit-reporting services know you don’t want your name sold.
