Mexico’s Anti-U.S. Law Enforcement

Share

* Mexico defends its outrageous treatment of U.S. citizens by claiming that we do not understand its laws (Letters, Nov. 28).

Frankly, it is doubtful Mexico understands its laws, because they are established at the time an incident occurs and when it is determined that a U.S. citizen is involved. The bail or fine is also determined at that point. I have personally been involved in this, and the fine was the amount in my wallet.

This is nothing new. These illegal Mexican practices have been going on for years, but until recently not much has been said.

If Mexico were such a law-abiding country, as their politicians would have us believe, their citizens would not be coming here.

The United States has laws also. Some of those laws bar illegally entering the country, driving without a license, driving while uninsured, working illegally, leaving the scene of an accident, obtaining medical benefits illegally.

The difference is that these are U.S. laws that Mexico and its citizens feel free to violate daily.

Your American dollar is better spent in the United States, where it is appreciated and not demanded by a police-state environment. Then when the tourist dollars dry up, possibly Mexico will understand the definition of laws and how it too must abide by them.
