Remains of Bombing Victims Are Buried
About 100 mourners in Oklahoma City paid tribute in the cold, gray morning as a coffin holding unidentified remains of the victims of the bombing of the federal building was buried. The remains had been stored in the medical examiner’s office since the explosion on April 19, 1995. “We must never forget the high price paid that day to be an American,” Oklahoma City police Chaplain Jack Poe told the victims’ families, friends and neighbors who gathered for the ceremony. The coffin was buried on the state Capitol grounds in a grove of 168 linden trees representing the 168 people who died.
