The Valley. In the ‘80s, the word meant one thing, the urban sprawl north of the Santa Monica Mountains. Icon of the San Fernando Valley: a shoping-crazed teenage girl. In the ‘90s, the term is just as likely to denote the Silicon Valley, that storied stretch of high-tech utopia south of San Francisco.
