Police Take Action at Cuban Boy’s Home
A police bomb squad destroyed two suspicious packages sent to the home where Elian Gonzalez, the Cuban boy found clinging to an inner tube off the coast of Florida, has been staying with relatives. After blowing up the packages, police discovered remnants of soaps and an invitation to a spa that had been presents meant for the family. Elian has been at the center of a political storm since he was found Thanksgiving Day. His father, with Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s support, wants the boy back. His relatives in Florida want custody. U.S. courts are considering the issue.
