Learn to Love a Daughter

Share

While I sympathize with the loss of their only son (“Silent Pain,” Dec. 12), I can’t help but wonder if the Lius would have sent their only daughter back to China to live with her aunt and uncle if she was a boy. The importance given to a male heir in the Chinese culture truly makes me disgusted. And I am writing this as a Chinese American male. Instead of spending all this time grieving for a lost son, perhaps the Lius should spend some of that time learning to love their daughter.
