Mayor Frank Fry said he does not foresee any problems in relation to Y2K but added that the city is “on full alert.” The police department will be in “excess of double staff,” said Lt. James Waller. Other than a few block parties, there are no events planned in the city, and police have very few major concerns, said Waller.
An optimistic thumbs-up was given to the city in regard to its computer readiness by Howard Skeen, a city traffic commissioner and retired aerospace scientist. “I get a warm, fuzzy feeling that Westminster has worked out the [Y2K] problem and done it quite well,” he said. “I’m confident that everything is going to be compliant.”
