Man May Face Murder Charge in Mother’s Death

A man who allegedly forced his mother to sit in a cold bath while he watched the Super Bowl may be charged with murder in her death, authorities said Monday.

Steven Isa, 47, has been in jail since Jan. 31, the day he put his 69-year-old mother, Rachel, in the tub because she was annoying him during the game, sheriff’s officials said. She was apparently too frail to pull herself out.

Isa doused the malnourished woman with cold water periodically, Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Killeen said. Isa called paramedics after finding her unconscious.

She was treated for hypothermia and malnutrition and taken to a hospital. Isa was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse, Killeen said.

But on Feb. 5, Rachel Isa died, Killeen said. The Sheriff’s Department will present the case to the district attorney, he said.
