Alison Kline, manager of BJ’s Pizza & Grill, won the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce and Business Assn.’s Shop Seal Beach contest. The chamber, which had asked people to submit suggestions for encouraging residents to shop locally, received more than 50 contest entries. Kline’s idea was to designate one night a week Locals Night, during which Seal Beach residents get a discount by showing their ID. The chamber intends to encourage businesses to follow her idea.

“We’re trying to encourage people to shop in town. We do have a lot of tourists who come into town, [but] what we really want to do is get some of the locals who will shop in town and leave their money here,” said Chamber board member T.C. Cirillo.
