Q: How do scientists distinguish between meat-eating and plant-eating dinosaurs?

A: By their teeth. Meat-eating dinosaurs, or carnivores, have sharp teeth suitable for ripping and tearing flesh. Their teeth are much like those of modern alligators. Plant-eating dinosaurs, or herbivores, have peg-like teeth with flat surfaces that are adapted to grinding up leaves and grasses. Their teeth are more like those of cows.
