The City Council this week approved spending $48,577 for additional work to compensate for the loss of wetlands at the site of a soon-to-be-built $22-million community center and sports park. The site is home to about 30 southwestern pond turtles, a California species of special concern. The turtles and plants from the wetlands will be relocated to Aliso Woods Park.
