8 Investigators Are Reportedly Missing

Eight federal investigators on the way to exhume possible mass graves were reported missing after rightist paramilitary gunmen ambushed their convoy, authorities said. A convoy of investigators and state security police was intercepted by armed men near La Ceja, a town 125 miles from the capital, Bogota, said the state prosecutor’s office. A shootout occurred, and at least one federal investigator was injured, the investigators corps reported. Eight others were missing. The Colombian army was then called in, and troops dispersed the attackers, killing one paramilitary member and arresting another, said the commander of the nearby Fourth Brigade, Gen. Eduardo Herrera.
