From Times Wire Reports

Protesting the shooting by New York City police of an unarmed black immigrant, a group of civil rights activists called for an examination of police violence against blacks nationwide. The shooting is being investigated by the Bronx district attorney’s office, but federal officials also are involved. About 400 protesters started outside the White House, then marched to the Justice Department and the Capitol. Federal offices were closed for Presidents Day. Four police officers searching for a rapist fired 41 shots at Amadou Diallo, 22, as he stood in the vestibule of his apartment building Feb. 4, hitting him 19 times. The four officers have been placed on administrative duties, but still carry weapons and badges.
