Is County Board Really Necessary?

Share

* One wonders what the supervisors have to fear in televising their meetings (Feb. 16).

Is it the fact that they just try to ram their pet projects down our collective throats (and wallets)? Or the fact that they behave like a bunch of babies when they don’t get their way?

Even if their meetings were broadcast, do they really think that the entire county is going to drop what they are doing and watch their supervisors “at work doing the people’s business”? I really doubt that. Watch the supervisors instead of a “Simpsons” rerun? No, I think that what they want to do is sit back, talk the talk about the merits of projects, then go ahead and walk a different walk, and force projects like the El Toro airport, the maximum-security Musick jail and others on south Orange County.

What people in Orange County need to ask is: Why do we even have a county government? Since more cities have incorporated, shouldn’t county government become smaller? Think about it: What a wasteful, unnecessary layer of government. Let’s just eliminate them altogether.
