Antidepressants’ Effect on Elderly Studied

New research from Penn State’s College of Medicine may help to explain why antidepressants, such as Prozac, take longer to work in elderly patients compared to younger patients.

Joan M. Lakoski, associate professor of pharmacology and anesthesia, is conducting research with female rats to measure the impact of the antidepressant fluoxetine.

One of her long-term goals is to develop new and better treatments for the elderly.
