Edison Offers Incentive to Keep Poly-Tainer in Simi

Poly-Tainer, a manufacturer of plastic products that received a $1-million, low-interest loan last week from the state to convince it to stay in Simi Valley, will also get incentives from Southern California Edison.

Officials from Utah, Arizona and Nevada heavily recruited Poly-Tainer to relocate from its 2220 Shasta Way headquarters. Company officials seriously considered moving the company and its 240 jobs out of state, according to Barry R. Sedlik, Edison’s manager of economic and business development.

“Other states routinely attempt to lure businesses and jobs from Southern California by offering lower land costs and reduced electricity rates,” Sedlik said. “Companies like Poly-Tainer are extremely valuable to the local job market, and therefore SCE works diligently to keep them here.”

The utility offered Poly-Tainer five years of discounted electricity rates in exchange for agreeing to maintain a specified level of consumption for seven years, Sedlik said. Poly-Tainer also received assistance from Ventura County, the California Manufacturing Technology Center and the state’s Employment Development Department.

Because of the savings associated with the offer, Poly-Tainer said it would expand its existing facility and add 60 full-time and 12 part-time positions.
