Plans to build a bluff-top resort on the city’s last remaining stretch of undeveloped coastline are back on track this week after the state Supreme Court refused to grant the city’s efforts to block the controversial project. In addition to the resort, the owner of the 122 acres wants to build three commercial centers and 261 homes. Some city leaders, environmentalists and others are concerned the project will bring too much traffic and ruin the pristine environment. The city has proposed fewer homes, more open space and a small beachfront hotel. In the wake of the recent defeat, the city plans to seek other legal avenues to overturn a 1998 court decision ordering the city to let the developer’s project move forward. In the meantime, the city must hold public hearings to review the owner’s plan before the city’s Planning Commission. No hearing dates have been set.
