Manny Ontiveros, who has long been involved in civic and community activities, was appointed this week to fill a vacancy on the North Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees. Ontiveros, who turns 25 next week, will fill the unexpired term left by Cynthia Coad, elected to the 4th District Orange County Board of Supervisors seat in November. He was among five candidates. The board governs Fullerton College, Cypress College and the School of Continuing Education.

“It was an honor and privilege to be selected,” said Ontiveros, who will serve until November 2000, then plans to run for election to the four-year seat.

Ontiveros has served on the Anaheim Parks and Recreation Commission; he has resigned as its chairman. A member of the Anaheim Independencia Board of Directors since 1992, he also left that post so he can focus on his service to the college district. An Anaheim native, he is a federal probation officer, and a graduate of Fullerton College and UC Irvine.
