What Are You Drinking?

David Graves, Saintsbury

“I’ve been doing my annual Alsatian survey lately. We make a little Pinot Gris--when I say ‘a little,’ I mean it; this year we made one barrel--but my interest in these wines way predates that. I just really, really like Alsatian wines: Domaine Weinbach, Zindt-Humbrecht and the always-interesting Domaine Ostertag. And though I happen to think Ostertag went way down the wrong path doing barrique aging (if I wanted to taste oak, I’d drink Saintsbury), there is none of that in its 1996 Riesling from the Heissenberg vineyard, which I love.”
