Jordan Elementary School officials on Thursday will begin the long process to switch from a traditional schedule to a year-round calendar. Orange Unified School District officials will discuss the plan this week but will not vote on the issue. Residents must be given at least six months’ notice before a school’s calendar is changed, officials said.

Jordan administrators said they want to go to year-round schooling to avoid the deterioration in reading and English skills that can come with the summer months. Preliminary talks with parents and teachers showed that many would support the change, they added. The school board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at district headquarters, 1401 N. Handy St. Information: (714) 997-6221.
