No Loafing Around, Busy Buying, Selling
Singer-actor Meat Loaf, who will appear in the upcoming movie “Fight Club” with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, has sold his Beverly Hills-area home, purchased a house in a canyon neighborhood and listed for sale a Beverly Hills house he bought last year.
The Grammy-winning singer became one of the hottest character actors last year playing a bad guy in “Black Dog,” Dennis Quaid’s best friend in the TNT movie “Everything That Rises” and Gillian Anderson’s husband in “The Mighty.”
Meat Loaf, 50, sold his Beverly Hills-area home for about $1.4 million. The Spanish-style home, once a gatehouse to a major estate, was recently renovated and has five bedrooms, a maid’s quarters and a guest house.
Meat Loaf listed the Beverly Hills house he bought last February. Its asking price is about $1.8 million. He had planned to renovate the home, built in 1922, and secured permits to expand the house to 7,200 square feet from 3,100.

Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche have sold their Hancock Park home for about $3.3 million, say real estate sources not involved in the deal. The three-week escrow just closed.
“The house has fabulous architectural bones. It was built by Meyer & Holler, who did Grauman’s [now Mann’s Chinese theater] and the Egyptian [theater],” said Barry Sloane, director of architectural and historical properties for Fred Sands Estates. Sloane co-listed the three-bedroom, 5,000-square-foot house with Heidi Lake of Sands’ Beverly Hills office.
The former star of “Ellen” and her partner, co-star of “Psycho,” refurbished the home, built in the 1920s.
“It’s like a villa in Tangiers with walled gardens,” Sloane said.
The buyers, described as “a noncelebrity family,” were represented by Mary Lane of Fred Sands’ Hancock Park office.
DeGeneres and Heche moved north, out of the city, more than three weeks ago, Sloane said.

Bijan, the fashion and fragrance mogul, has put the Beverly Hills house he bought in February on the market at just under $7 million. He paid $5.75 million.
Bijan, 58, has counted four kings, 16 presidents worldwide and basketball great Michael Jordan as customers.
The fashion mogul started rehabbing, then decided to test the market. Built in 1929, the 12,600-square-foot house, on an acre overlooking a golf course, has a master suite with a sitting room and two baths plus four family bedrooms and four staff rooms. The house has hand-carved ceilings, Portuguese tiles and a large courtyard with a fountain.
