Fluoridated Water

Re “Residents Protest Adding Fluoride to Water Supply,” Jan. 13, and “Contract Clears Way for Fluoridation,” Jan. 20.

It is amazing to me how a few people can cloud a great achievement. I am referring to Patrick McGreevy’s Jan. 13 [article]. Six misinformed people don’t want fluoride added to their tap water. I have three words for them: “Buy bottled water.” And then, “See your dentist.”

It is a fact that the incidence of dental caries is dramatically and safely reduced by drinking fluoridated water. This is obvious to the overwhelming majority of California voters who mandated the fluoridation of our water in 1995. The California Dental Assn. feels strongly enough on the issue to financially contribute to the cause.

And why would health professionals, such as the California Dental Assn., want to support an issue that reduces dental business? Because it works, it works safely and it works well.

For my family, including my three children, I am happy to have the safe dental protection of fluoride in our drinking water.
