Big Challenge for the Trojans

Share

The Trojans face an uphill battle against Washington tonight at Seattle--and the mountain they must climb goes by the name of Todd MacCulloch.

The Huskies’ 7-foot center has been on a tear, scoring 31 points against California and finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds against No. 3 Stanford last week. He is averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds.

USC’s front line, meanwhile, has no one taller than 6-9.

“It’s tough because [MacCulloch] is so big,” USC Coach Henry Bibby said. “If you try to front him, they throw over the top. If you play behind him, he takes up so much space. Maybe you just double-team and make him pass.”

If that doesn’t work, the Trojans might empty the bench, using half a dozen interchangeable forwards to constantly push and pull at the big man.
