Marriage ‘Checkup’ Scheduled for Feb. 13

Dentists recommend regular checkups for teeth. Two ministers would like couples to conduct regular checkups for their marriages too.

On Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day, the Rev. Robert Bethancourt and Rev. Paul Edwards of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Fullerton will hold a session for couples to examine their marriage.

“People when they come into a marriage have a fairly good sense of well-being,” said Edwards, who also is a licensed marriage and family counselor. “But then, as they come together, they begin to depend on the other person for their sense of well-being.”

The two hope to strengthen marriages by helping people learn that they must be more secure about themselves and learn to become more aware of God’s presence, Edwards said.

During the Feb. 13 event, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the two ministers plan to discuss how to strengthen communication, compatibility, commitment and intimacy in marriage, Edwards said.

Those who are married or about to marry are welcome. For more information about the event, at 1145 W. Valencia Mesa Drive, call (714) 879-8070.
