Cuba and Iran Sign Trade, Political Pacts
Cuba and Iran, hailing their “revolutionary” friendship, signed a group of political and economic agreements Saturday aimed at boosting bilateral trade and opening up new areas of cooperation.
The accords, signed by visiting Iranian First Deputy President Hassan Habibi and Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage, included a broad commercial treaty that laid the framework for expanded trade ties between the two countries.
Iranian Agriculture Minister Issa Kalantari said the nations are seeking to broaden trade beyond commodities like sugar and oil to include products like industrial goods, clothing and medical products, such as Cuban-produced vaccines.
The other accords covered international political cooperation, collaboration between chambers of commerce and an agreement between the agriculture ministries on sanitation.
