* Record vs. Mercury--1-0.

* Update--The Sparks’ six-game winning streak ended Friday with a 77-72 loss to the Sacramento Monarchs. Today’s game is the last for both teams before the six-day break for the WNBA All-Star game Wednesday in New York. Next outing after that for the Sparks: at Phoenix on Saturday. Phoenix has lost five in a row, the most recent a 71-70 home loss to Houston Friday. On Wednesday, the Sparks won at Phoenix, 67-61. Coach Orlando Woolridge can again be expected to assign his big guards and wings--Mwadi Mabika, Allison Feaster and La’Keshia Frett--to guard the undersized Mercury guards, Michele Timms and Bridget Pettis. In Phoenix, those two combined to score only 11 points. Jennifer Gillom leads Phoenix with 16.8 points and 7.4 rebounds a game. Lisa Leslie leads the Sparks with 16 points and 8.2 rebounds. Rookie point guard Ukari Figgs is experiencing a slow recovery from the ankle sprain she suffered in Minneapolis July 1. Woolridge had hoped she could play today, but now the prognosis is she won’t return until after the all-star break.
