Re “Teaming Up to Aid Consumers,” July 6: Let me see if I have this right. A coalition of state attorneys general are tethering sweepstakes promoters in order to protect consumers, who need only pony up the cost of a stamp to enter. Are not these same noble public servants touched with a twinge of irony regarding their own states’ enthusiastic efforts to market and promote lotteries wherein participants--often those who can least afford it--are required to pay in order to play?
