Veggie Dogs: There’s Just No Comparison

Share

As a longtime L.A. Times subscriber and avid cook, I had to comment on Emily Green’s taste test article, “And the Wiener Is?” (June 30). The statement that the “veggie dog was remarkable for having been spat out by almost every taster” was most distasteful to this reader. Comparing a vegetarian product with a meat product in a culinary tasting event is absolutely ridiculous. Vegetarians do not choose veggie hot dogs by comparing them to meat. If you want to compare veggie dogs, then compare the many varieties now available due to popular demand. Veggie dogs and “garden” burgers are a very practical means of not making vegetarianism the issue at barbecues and other summer events with friends gathering.
