Moon Landing

Share

Re the 30th anniversary of the moon landing, July 20: Space exploration is all about politics. America can always be proud we landed the first 12 humans on the moon. History books will record this fact for centuries. The crash of the orbiting Lunar Prospector into the moon’s south pole on July 31 will be a long step in proving frozen water actually exists on the moon. Perhaps the moon will turn out to be the rocket-fuel “filling station” on the path to the planet Mars.

I hope our political leaders (presidential candidates) have the foresight to extend the vision and fund a new program to land more Americans on the moon circa 2010. Otherwise, the 13th and 14th humans on the moon will likely be the Chinese, who are now set to commence their manned space program early next year.
