* Newell Rubbermaid Inc., maker of Berol pens, Levolor blinds and other consumer products, said it cut 400 jobs at its Rubbermaid unit and lowered its second-quarter profit outlook because of promotional costs and a prolonged regulatory review of the Rubbermaid acquisition made in March. Newell now expects earnings of between 39 cents and 44 cents a share. Analysts had expected it to earn 48 cents. Newell shares rose $2.50 to close at $43 on the NYSE.

* TRW Inc. said it will sell up to 2 million shares of RF Micro Devices Inc. as part of its effort to reduce debt. The sales, to be made during the next six to 12 months, will cut TRW’s stake in RF Micro to about 20% from the current 25.5%. Shares in RF Micro, which designs and develops semiconductors for wireless communications applications, fell $1.50 to close at $41.13 on Nasdaq.

* Eaton Corp., the biggest U.S. maker of truck transmissions, plans to spend more than $100 million to build a transmission plant in Mexico to meet increased truck parts demand in North America. The plant is expected to employ 400 to 500 people, the Cleveland-based company said. Construction is to begin this year and take five years to complete at a site Eaton has yet to announce.

* Britain’s Yorkshire Water said it will pay $444 million to acquire Aquarion Co., which would give it a platform for growth in the United States. Bridgeport, Conn.-based Aquarion has businesses in public water supply, timber processing, utility management service and real estate. Yorkshire Water provides drinking water to about 1.9 million customers.
